Moderate AIr quality in Tohana

Farmers continue to set paddy residue afire despite a ban on this practice. The air quality index (AQI) is 110, which comes in moderate condition. Pollution-laden air causes irritation in the eyes of the residents and breathing difficulties are on rise. It is also causing discomfort to people with lung disease such as asthma, and discomfort to children, adults and people with heart disease. This season, food items such as fruits and vegetables sold on the streets are falling prey to this pollution, which has a direct impact on the health of the residents of the area. Residents prefer to buy less of the fruits and vegetables sold in the roads and markets. The direct impact of which seems to be on the pockets of small shopkeepers selling fruits and vegetables. At the right time, the government and administration should take appropriate steps to curb this pollution. –Tanuj Goyal Tohana

Accidents decline by 3.55%

It is a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction that the road fatalities and accidents have shown downward trend. It has declined by 3.55 per cent in the past nine months. It has been possible with the sustainable efforts, increased traffic enforcements and road safety measures programmes inducted by the Haryana Police. The Government of Haryana must give suitable awards for making progress to the concerned and it must be continued. –Subhash C Taneja, Gurugram

Need to check pollution

It is the matter of great concern about smog which engulfs Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and surrounding areas caused by stubble-burning. It is affecting the health of one and all including school children. Schools had to be closed in NCR to save the children from health emergencies. Delhi has become the world Capital of air pollution. Flights are being cancelled. Have the authorities at Centre and state have gone blind to the sufferings of common man or they are so conscious about their vote bank that they do not want to annoy the farmers but are prepared to sacrifice the health of everyone including children and senior citizens and off course their own kith and kin. I fail to understand as to why the government machinery failed to implement the law in affected areas specially NCR capital of the country where every other day foreign dignitaries visits is so heavily affected and what impression we are creating. Regular survey of the villages to be carried out and officers to be detailed by name giving specific areas of responsibility, Deputy Commissioners and SDMs should be held responsible for the violations in their areas. —Col KJ Singh (Retd), Ambala

Govt gone, but sign boards remain!

The tenure of the state government and its ministers who were elected in 2014 might have ended, but not their presence at the roads. Commuters still find the name plates and sign boards of some of the ministers, chairpersons or heads of the departments, who had been functional in the tenure of the previous government, whose period is already over as new MLA’s and government has been elected and sworn in. The failure of the authorities concerned to ensure removal of such sign boards not only cause confusion, but also give a wrong message to the common man, how tax payers’ money in used in installing such infrastructure. Leave LPG subsidy to defence fund

LPG was introduced in India in around 1970. The government has encouraged the public to replace their old fuel systems i.e. use of wood, kerosene, oil, coal, as such subsidiary is given. Today most of the LPG consumers are in existence of vehicles where they spent approximately Rs200 for petrol and diesel daily. They can also leave the subsidy. I request the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send subsidy to the defence fund in the interest of the country. -Dr Brij Kishore Marwah, Ambala.
