Karnal, October 29

Gharaunda MLA and Hafed Chairman Harvinder Kalyan on Monday inspected the banks of the Yamuna, which creates havoc every year during the monsoon in more than 30 villages situated along it.

He directed the authorities to chalk out a plan for the maintenance of the weak points on the banks of the river in advance instead of working there at the eleventh hour.

Besides, he asked the authorities to send a proposal to the government for taking early approval so that the work of maintenance could be done before the start of the next rainy season.

He interacted with farmers who suffered losses due to the flooding of the Yamuna between July and September and assured them that the repair of the Yamuna banks and the construction of studs, wherever required, would be done in advance.“I have even raised the issue of the early completion of the flood control work in this Assembly session, and I have been assured by the government that the job would be done in advance keeping in view the sensitivity of the work,” said Kalyan.

Farmers told the MLA that thousands of residents living in the villages along the Yamuna live in the fear of floods during the monsoon season as flood in the river creates a huge loss to them every year.
