Minister launches sapling plantation drive

Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain on Sunday stressed on the need for involvement of women in environment protection and tree plantation.

Launching a tree plantation drive by Pariyavaran Mitra Mandli, led by Devender Sura, popular as tree man in the area, she remarked, “Women can take care of the growth of plants like their children.” The drive was dedicated to the girl child.

Around 300 saplings of banyan, protected with tree guards, were planted on the road connecting the Kakroi road and the Mehlana road through Sector 23 here.

TV star and brand ambassador of the Election Commission, Meghna Malik, a resident of Sonepat town, also participated in the drive and praised the selfless initiative of Sura, a constable of the Chandigarh Police.
