MCG employees on strike over demands

Responding to the call of MCG Employees Union Haryana, workers of Gurugram Municipal Corporation held a pen-down/tool-down strike today.

Over 4,000 workers gathered outside the old MCG office seeking discontinuation of outsourcing. The employees threatened a three-day strike if their demands are not met. The strike affected sanitation in the city. The workers gathered outside the old MCG office and raised slogans.

The protest was led by union unit president Ram Singh while Naresh Malkat, state secretary, addressed the workers.

“As per the agreement of May 24 last year, the contract system was to be ended, but it continues till today. In our 18 demands, the main is that the government should make a policy to regularise all employees. We have called a one-day strike but if the demands are not accepted, a big protest will be held for three days,” said state union vice-president Suresh Nawra.

More than 4,000 employees, including union leaders Basant Kumar, Ram Singh, Surender Balguher, Saroj, Sushila and district secretary of the union Ram Niwas Thakran, took part in the protest.
