Karnal, July 1

A 36-year-old man died on Monday as his family alleged he died of injuries after he was thrashed by a head constable and his wife living in the vicinity.

The protesting family members placed the body outside the head constable’s house in RK Puram this evening, demanding the registration of a case against the couple and their arrest.

DSP Baljinder Singh and SHO Sadar Baljeet Singh were trying to pacify them till the filing of the news, but they were adamant about not lifting the body till action was taken against the head constable and his wife.

The deceased has been identified as Randhir Singh of Mangal Pur. Phool Singh, father of the deceased, claimed that on Saturday, Randhir was going home after meeting him in Pritam Pur. Randhir got tired and sat near the house of the head constable.

Assuming that he was a thief, the head constable and his wife started beating him up. Later, they handed him over to the police, who also beat him up badly. The police left him home on Sunday and today he succumbed to his injuries.

“We are investigating the matter and action would be taken against those found guilty,” said Baljeet Singh, SHO. — TNS
