Ambala, February 10

In an alleged case of medical negligence, a 28-year-old man was administered a wrong injection at the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, last night.

According to information, Atul Behl, a local, complained of abdominal pain and he along with his mother visited the Civil Hospital. The nurse on duty allegedly administered him an injection used in dog bite cases instead of the one prescribed by the on-duty doctor.

Sangeeta Behl, Atul’s mother, said, “We thought he was suffering from stone pain and took him to the Civil Hospital where the nurse administered him a wrong injection. We have made a complaint to Health Minister Anil Vij in this regard”.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Vinod Gupta said, “The matter has come to my knowledge. The on-duty doctor has told me that three or four patients suffering from severe pain had arrived at the hospital at the same time. There was a dog bite patient too. Meanwhile, attendants of all these patients kept asking the staff nurse to attend to their patient first, and amid all confusion she administered the dog bite injection to Atul”. “However, after realising that she has given the wrong injection to Atul she informed him about it and then gave him the required medical attention. The patient was told not to panic as the injection wouldn’t have any side-effect,” he added.
