Man dies in hospital, kin allege negligence

KAITHAL: A patient admitted to a private nursing home, Arogya Sadan, on Pehowa Chowk, died here during treatment on Saturday.

A patient admitted to a private nursing home, Arogya Sadan, on Pehowa Chowk, died here during treatment on Saturday. His family members accused the doctor who attended to Rajinder Mor of negligence and misbehaviour and raised slogans outside the hospital.

A city police team reached the hospital to control the situation. Dr Ashok Garg, owner of the nursing home, has sought police security. Family members of the patient alleged that patients were being charged heavily even for a simple checkup in the OPD .

Surinder, a resident of Chandana village, son-in-law of the deceased, Baldev, a former sarpanch of Titram, Sanju and Kuldip Geong Dharamveer of sirta alleged that the patient died due to the negligence of the doctor.

Surinder said that he brought his fathering-in-law Rajinder Mor, who was suffering from asthama, to the nursing home. They paid Rs 400 as the OPD fee . When they insisted on an early treatment due to the serious condition of the patient, they were told that the emergency checkup fee is Rs 1,000. They deposited an additional Rs 600. After the checkup, the patient was given six to seven injections one after the other, but he died after some time. The relatives alleged that when they tried to talk to the doctor, he misbehaved with them. The police talked to the doctor and the aggrieved relatives.

Dr Ashok Garg refuted the charges and said the patient was suffering from acute asthma and hence after initial treatment he had advised his family members to take him to Dr Shah or Sygnus Hospital, as there was no ventilator at the nursing home. But they started arguing with him and in the meantime the patient died .

SHO Mandeep said the police has received a complaint and a DDR has been registered. A postmortem was conducted in the Civil Hospital and the viscera was being sent to the Forensic Science Lab ascertain the cause of death.
