The panchayat of Kharak Pandva village in Kalayat subdivision of this district is vexed at the opening of a liquor vend on its land.

Demanding action against the illegal occupants of the panchayat land on which a tin kiosk has come up, sarpanch Sita Devi, along with panches and villagers, including women in a large number, reached the Mini Secretariat today and raised slogans.

Later, a group of village representatives submitted a memorandum to City Magistrate Pardeep Ahlawat. They alleged that the vend operators had been pressuring the sarpanch to execute a rent deed in their favour so that they could get an electricity connection. As the panchayat refused, threats were being issued to its members.

The sarpanch said they had apprised the DC and the SP of the problem, but to no avail. The panchayat demanded that the administration should get the land vacated from the illegal occupants.
