Political and social outfits which have been demanding at least 10 acres for establishing a government boys’ college in Sector 20 here have suffered a setback as the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has lessened the land allotted for the project from 5.32 acres to 5 acres.

It has decided to keep 0.32 acre aside for future utilisation for dispensary, police post, crèche, nursery or water boosting station. A communiqué in this regard was sent by the local estate office of the HSVP to the District Town Planner, asking it to demarcate the site at the earliest.

According to the Dakshin Haryana Lok Manch, a social outfit, the development came after Rewari Deputy Commissioner wrote twice to the HSVP, demanding 10 acres for setting up the college.

“It is surprising that the HSVP has reduced land instead of increasing it from 5.32 acres to 10 acres. We will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, demanding 10 acres for the college,” said Prof Ranbir Singh Yadav, general secretary of the manch.

He said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced the college during his first visit to Rewari in 2015. “Five acres of land is not sufficient for the project. It is discrimination as the HSVP has already allotted 10 acres for a college in Sonepat,” he pointed out.

Ved Prakash Vidrohi, spokesman of the state Congress, asked why the college in Rewari could not be allotted 10 acres if the one in Sonepat could.

“Sector 20 is yet to be developed. There is adequate space for the college. The Chief Minister should intervene and provide at least 12 acres in view of future requirements if he really wants to ensure impartial development across the state,” he said.

Deepak Ghanghas of the HSVP estate office, confirmed that 0.32 acre would be used for some other purpose following a directive of the state authority. “As per HSVP norms, a minimum of 5 acres of land is required to establish a college, which has been given,” he stated.
