Chandigarh, July 20

Working on tobacco intervention in collaboration with Consumer Voice for many years, Chandigarh-based Citizens Awareness Group has written to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Health Minister Anil Vij and Health Secretary of Haryana urging them to ban e-cigarettes in the state.

The NGO said that youngsters were being lured to e-cigarettes by projecting them to be a “healthier” alternative to traditional cigarettes, but this is not true.

Narender Ahooja, State Drug Controller-cum-Joint Commissioner, FDA, Haryana, said that e-cigarettes contained nicotine in pure chemical form. Nicotine is already covered under the Poison Act in Haryana.
