January 28 a holiday

The government has notified that January 28, the day of polling in the Jind byelection, will be observed as a public holiday in all state government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions and various factories, commercial establishments and shops located in areas where voting is to be held, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

It has also been notified that January 28 will be observed as a paid holiday in respect of those employees of the state government, factories, shops and commercial establishments who are registered voters of the Jind constituency. 

Commission summons ‘vulgur’ YouTuber 

Chandigarh: The Haryana State Commission for Women on Tuesday issued a notice to Deepak Kalal, a Pune-based YouTuber and comedian, for allegedly promoting vulgarity, especially against women, though social media. The commission has summoned Kalal at its Panchkula office on January 25. “Your content and language you is lewd, excessively offensive, profanely indecent and calculated to shock the moral sense of women and children alike not only in Haryana, but also in the entire nation,” stated the commission’s notice. Man killed in Sonepat wall collapse 

Chandigarh: The husband of the Pipli village sarpanch was buried under the debris after a wall of his house collapsed on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Ravinder. Police sources said the wall collapsed due to a lightning strike, as it was raining at the time of the incident. No evidence of an explosive blast has been found near the house. The police said a bomb squad and teams from Forensic Science Laboratory were called to investigate the matter, but nothing was found. TNS

Two arrested for killing stray dog

Gurugram: The police on Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly thrashing a stray dog and killing it in Sector 82 on January 13.  A resident saw them and reported the matter to the police. The accused, identified as Tushar and Deepak, were produced in a local court and granted bail. The police traced the carcass, exhumed it and got the postmortem done. The postmortem revealed that the 7-month-old bitch died due to clotting owing to brutality-induced panic and anxiety. The accused said the dog had bitten many people and become a threat. TNS

Free vaccination for docs treating swine flu: Vij

Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday said free vaccination would be given to hospital employees and doctors who were engaged in the treatment of severe diseases like swine flu to ensure their protection from such ailments. Vij said the state government was committed towards ensuring good health and safety to people. Therefore, a decision to this effect had been taken and directions had been issued to the director general of the Health Department. He said eight patients suffering from swine flu had died during treatment in private hospitals but no death had been reported from government hospitals. TNS
