Hisar, December 9

Staff of a private school in Hisar allegedly blackened the faces of seven Class IV students who failed to perform well in a test. Two girls and five boys were “paraded” on the school premises to shame them.

The incident occurred on Friday. Parents of one of the girls, a Scheduled Caste, filed a complaint on Sunday and the police registered a case under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and the SC/ST Act today. The school principal who, the complainants alleged, showed no remorse, and some staff members have been booked, according to SHO Jagjit Singh.

Today morning, when the girl’s parents went to lodge an FIR, the school authorities closed the school gates and refused to talk to anybody, including the police.

DSP Ashok Kumar said the police went to the school for CCTV footage but in vain. District Elementary Education Officer Dhanpat Singh said: “May be the school is functioning under the old rules. The Education Department will take appropriate action against it for this shameful act.”

He also said he had yet to receive a complaint from the parents of the affected schoolchildren.
