Rewari, October 14

The police rounded up gunman Mahipal’s mother Tirpati and her nephew Manoj Kumar from their house in Kosli town of the district on Sunday. Tirpati was detained in the wee hours, while Manoj was picked up in the afternoon. Tirpati came to Kosli from Gurugram on Saturday evening.

“Manoj had gone to Gurugram on October 11 to bring Tirpati to Kosli. He stayed at Mahipal’s house for a day. Mahipal talked to him in a good mood. Manoj along with his aunt (bhua) left for Kosli from Gurugram in the afternoon and reached Kosli in the evening,” said Daan Singh, father of Manoj.

Singh maintained a team of policewomen came to his house around 3 am and took Tirpati to Gurugram stating that they were to question her in connection with the shootout. In the afternoon, another police team came to the house and took Manoj for questioning, he said.

“Mahipal came to Kosli on September 23 to celebrate Manoj’s birthday. He was happy with his family and the work. We do not know why he perpetrated such a ghastly crime,” said Singh, adding that Mahipal’s brother-in-law informed them about the crime on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, residents of Mahipal’s native Bhungarka village in Mahendragarh district are disturbed over the shooting incident. They say Mahipal has brought a bad name to the village by committing the ghastly crime.

Vedpal, who runs a school in the village, said Mahipal was reserved by nature hence he did not have much friends in the village. “What he did is not less than a shock for the villagers,” he comments.
