The BJP’s Hisar candidate Brijendra Singh is set to continue the political legacy of his father Birender Singh, Union Minister for Steel and Rajya Sabha member.

Born on May 13, 1972, Brijendra is an IAS officer of the Haryana cadre. He got selected in the civil services in 1998. He served as Deputy Commissioner in Faridabad, Panchkula and Chandigarh. He is Managing Director of Hafed at present.

Brijendra’s father Birender is a grandson of Sir Chhotu Ram, farm leader in the pre-Independence era who was from Garhi Sampla in Rohtak district. Birender is the son of Chhotu Ram’s daughter Bagwani Devi.

Birender had been MP from Hisar. He defeated Om Prakash Chautala in 1984. A resident of Dumarkhan, Birender is five-time MLA from the Uchana Kalan Assembly segment in Jind. He was elected Congress MLA in 1977, 1982, 1994, 1996 and 2005.

He was elected to the Rajya Sabha on Congress ticket in 2010. He resigned from the Rajya Sabha and quit the Congress to join the BJP in 2014. The BJP sent him to the RS in June 2016 and inducted him in the Cabinet. He is the eldest member of the Cabinet at present.
