Chandigarh, October 23

Rapping Hisar-based Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Rohtak International Institute for total arbitrary exercise of power, the High Court has imposed Rs50,000 cost for arbitrarily cancelling admission to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science course even after the deposition of fee and verification of documents.

The amount, to be paid within a month by the varsity and the institute in equal proportion, would be compensatory to the petitioner, the Bench of Justice Mahesh Grover and Justice Amit Rawal asserted.

The judgment came on a petition filed against the varsity and other respondents by Deepak through counsel Sardavinder Goyal. The Bench was told that the candidate deposited the fee and got documents verified. Yet, seat was not allocated to him; and the respondents did not offer justifiable reasons for cancelling the admission. The varsity, meanwhile, submitted that the petitioner did not get himself registered on due date and time.

The Bench asserted that it was unable to appreciate the respondents’ stand. The petitioner deposited the fee, got documents verified and subjected himself to medical examination in terms of the procedure. He could not be denied admission merely because he was not registered.
