Gurugram, April 26

The Gurugram police have arrested six persons for allegedly disrupting a group of minority community members offering prayers in an open ground at Sector 53 about a week back.

The police swung into action following a video that has gone viral showing the group of men raising religious slogans and directing the Muslims offering namaz to clear off the area. Though reports doing the rounds in social media claimed that the accused belonged to a right wing Hindu organisation, the police have denied the same.

A police spokesman Ravinder Kumar said the rumours were being circulated to communalise the issue.
According to police, on Friday last around 3 pm six accused identified as Arun, Manish, Deepak, Monu alias Nambardar, Mohit and Ravinder, all
residents of nearby Wazirabad and Kanhai villages landed at a ground opposite Saraswati Kunj where around 50 men had gathered to offer namaz and disrupted them with provocative slogans.

A video of incident shot by one of the men chasing away the group of Muslims has gone viral.

“We had come across videos last week but following verification registered a case under various sections for inciting communal trouble,’’ said Arvind Dahiya, Station House Officer (SHO), Sector 53 police station.

The arrests, however, sparked protests from some majority community members from nearby areas who claimed that the congregation was illegal. “The boys were not stopping anybody from praying but wanted them to go to designated place for same,” said a panchayat member of Wazirabad village.
