Gloom in hometown Hisar

HISAR: A pall of gloom descended on Hisar when news of the demise of Wing Commander Sahil Gandhi came. He was commissioned as a pilot in the IAF in 2004.

A pall of gloom descended on Hisar when news of the demise of Wing Commander Sahil Gandhi came. 

His father Madan Mohan Gandhi is a retired bank official, while mother Dr Sudesh Gandhi retired recently as a principal scientist from Ch Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. 

His elder brother Nitin is an engineer in Sweden. Sahil is survived by his wife Himani and five-year-old son Riyan. Himani, an engineer, is currently in the US.

A family friend, Ashok Juneja, sitting amid a group of people who gathered at the house soon after the news of Wing Commander Sahil Gandhi’s demise, said that Sahil, 34, joined the NDA soon after passing his Class 12 in 2000. 

He was commissioned as a pilot in the IAF in 2004.

“He was one of the best IAF pilots and had participated in a number of air shows. His father had shared the information about the upcoming Aero India show on WhatsApp and we all were excited to watch him perform,” he said.

His mother was inconsolable as women from the neighbourhood gathered in the house in the evening. The mortal remains are expected to arrive tomorrow evening.
