Tribune News Service

Rohtak, August 11

A Rohtak girl was killed at a village in Sonepat district on the night of Raksha Bandhan. Her brother is suspected to be the conspirator in the crime, though the investigators are examining all angles.

The 19-year-old Dalit girl of Samar Gopalpur village in Rohtak district had alleged in the FIR that she was raped by Anil, a neighbour, on the intervening night of August 5 and 6. An FIR was registered at the Sadar police station in Rohtak on August 6. In her complaint, the girl alleged the youth had threatened her with dire consequences. Her family, however, suspected her version of rape claim.

The next day, the girl was taken to the house of her elder sister at Khubru village in Sonepat district, reportedly on the pretext of Raksha Bandhan. She was stabbed to death on the intervening night of August 7 and 8.

Monika’s brother Monu and her brother-in-law’s minor nephew were allegedly involved in the crime. A case was registered at the Ganaur police station in Sonepat district on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rajesh, husband of Monika’s elder sister.

As per the police, the case circumstances indicate the possibility of honour killing, though all angles are being examined.
