Hisar, May 21

In a suspected case of honour killing, the police today booked a man and his brother on the charge of killing his daughter, who reportedly eloped with her boyfriend on May 9.

The girl, Sonia (20), and her paramour are from the same village — Dhana Kalan in Hansi subdivision of the district. The girl’s father, Ravi Datt, and uncle, Krishan Saini, have been booked on a statement of constable Dinesh Kumar.

The family claimed Sonia, who was a student of BA third year, was found dead at home on Wednesday morning and she died of stomach ache. The family cremated the body without getting the post-mortem conducted.

Police sources said Sonia went missing on May 9. Her family lodged a missing person complaint. The police traced her to the Gurgaon railway station and brought her back on Tuesday. She was produced in court where she submitted she had gone with her friend on her own accord.

The police suspected the girl’s relatives strangled her since they were angry over her relationship with the boy of the same village.
