Residents Welfare Associations (RWA) of some residential societies of Greater Faridabad have started ‘No Road, No Vote’ campaign in order to highlight that the construction of a Master Road (Main) has been pending for the past several years.

The Greater Faridabad Residents Association (GREFA), an umbrella body of a dozen such associations of the area, has supported the move and has announced to boycott the poll if the work is not taken up before the elections.

“The work of the Master Road to connect Sector 82 and 85 has been pending since 2012-13. Despite hundreds of requests and reminders, the authorities have failed to start work on this important passage,” says Pramod Minocha, president of GREFA.

He said around 2,000 families residing in societies like Pranayam, BPTP Parkland, SPR of Sector 82 have been at the receiving end as they have been forced to commute on a narrow lane despite the fact that they have already paid all the external development charges to the agencies concerned before taking possession of the flats in 2012-13.

Though the HUDA (HSVP) had acquired the land for the Master Road about 10 years ago, a patch of land about 500m occupied by a private owner has not been cleared.

Expressing concern over the delay, Anshuman Kaushik, an office-bearer of the RWA of Pranayam society, said the person claiming ownership of the patch of land has already lost the case in court. The authorities have failed to clear it just because of his political influence, he claimed.

“We support the ‘No Road, No Vote’ move as a large number of people who have invested their hard-earned money into the flats here are facing hurdles because of negligence by the authorities and elected representatives,” says Gaurav Kumar of SPR society. Several banners have been put in the area appealing to the people to join the movement, he said.
