Faridabad, July 12

The Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) has announced to charge for water tankers. Till now, the facility was free in the city.

DR Bhaskar, Chief Engineer, MCF, said, “The move has come in the wake of perennial problem of water shortage in many parts of the city and to prevent illegal extraction of water by unscrupulous persons who exploit residents by charging heavily.” He said the residents could now depend on the official facility instead of illegal water suppliers.

He said the residents could ask for a tanker (3000 litres of water) for a payment of only Rs 500, which he claimed was nominal in comparison to the money charged by private suppliers who could ask for anything between Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,000.

He said the charge of a tanker for 12 hours had been fixed at Rs 500 and it would be Rs 750 if the tanker was kept for 24 hours.

The supply could be procured from hydrants, tubewells or boosting stations of the MCF where the activity would be monitored by CCTV cameras.

“The fee for 3,000 litres of water will be only Rs 200 if the applicant procures his own tanker or carrier, but he or she will be required to prove that the water was being sought for private use and not for selling it further,” he said. If the distance covered by a tanker was more than 5 km, a charge of Rs 5 per km would be applicable, he added.

The MCF had recently sealed 40 illegal borewells or RO water supply points in the city in order to curb the private water mafia.
