Chandigarh, October 20

Amid spurt in political activities in Jind due to the prospects of the announcement of a bypoll anytime, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will address a rally and launch a plethora of new projects there on Sunday to enhance the BJP’s electoral prospects.

Khattar’s rally comes close on the heels of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala’s visit to Jind last week where the INLD patriarch stayed for three days and toured the Assembly segment for mobilising people for his party.

The bypoll has been necessitated due to the death of INLD MLA from there Hari Chand Midha who had died on August 26.

Khattar’s rally in Jind was earlier announced for October 6, a day before the ECI announced dates for the four states. However, the rally was postponed to October 14 for some reasons and later, the October 14 date was also postponed to October 21.

Sources said the announcement of the dates for the by-poll could be made any time after tomorrow’s rally, since the ECI had announced the bypoll dates only after receiving the law and order report from the state.

According to the list of the projects to be launched tomorrow at Government PG College Grounds, Jind, the venue of the rally, Khattar will lay the foundation stone of widening and repair of roads in Scheme No. 5 and 6 Colony, Jind, widening of road from Gohana road to Bal Bhawan up to Safidon Road, construction of PHCs at villages Siwanamal and Shamlo Kalan, renovation of old block of Civil Hospital, Jind, opening of polytechnic in Jind, rehabilitation and upgrade of 2-lane of Jind-Gohana road, Jind-Karnal road and Bhiwani-Mundhal road. The CM will also launch some projects for the Uchana Assembly segment represented by Union Steel Minister Birender Singh’s wife Prem Lata.
