Karnal MP Ashwini Chopra, known for not mincing words, today launched a scathing attack on Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, terming him corrupt and incapable.

He even accused Sharma of indulging in caste politics and bringing rebels into the party fold.

Refuting the allegations, the minister said he would give it back in the court.

Chopra, who also owns a daily vernacular, alleged that Sharma had been getting his effigies burnt as the former had written some articles about him.

“It is because of Sharma that the school in his adopted village Mohiuddinpur has been hanging fire. Sharma is corrupt,” the MP reiterated.

“I have informed Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and party state in-charge Anil Jain about Sharma’s conduct,” he said.“I have no idea what’s going on between Sharma and former Congress MP Arvind Sharma, but the minister wants him to join the party. Arvind was once in the Congress and later in the BSP. Ram Bilas Sharma is betraying the party,” Chopra charged.

On being asked about any evidence against Sharma, the MP said a number of people had told him about the minister.

Chopra praised the Chief Minister saying: “Khattar is honest and capable. In the beginning, the government was slow, but now it is doing a good job. The Congress will face a downfall.”

On the three years of Union Government, he said its performance had been commendable and soon the country would be Congress-free. He interacted with the party workers and listened to their grievances.

When Sharma was asked over phone about the allegations, he said he did not want to comment. “Chopra always levels baseless allegations. Earlier too, he has targeted several leaders,” Sharma said.

He said Chopra had insulted the Brahmin community and which was why they were burning his effigies.

“I will reply to his allegations in the court,” he said.
