The INLD on Monday submitted a police complaint, demanding registration of a case against persons responsible for posting and circulating screenshots of a statement on the party’s intention to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala had made the statement in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. At that time, the INLD was considering supporting the BJP.

The statement is being circulated on social media platforms to create an impression that all is not well within the INLD and that the recent INLD-BSP tie-up is on a weak wicket, party leaders say.

“It as an attempt to destabilise the INLD-BSP tie-up and create a rift in the party. The BJP and the Congress are trying to create misunderstandings between the alliance partners,” Leader of the Opposition Abhay Singh Chautala said.

“They are unable to digest the winning combination of the INLD and the BSP, and are trying every trick to break it. They have been propagating that the alliance will not last. So, it is necessary to get an FIR registered to send out a message that we will not remain silent. The complaint was submitted to the Ambala SP,” Abhay said.

When contacted, Dushyant said he learnt that the IT cell of a national party had tried to play a mischief by circulating an old clipping to create an impression that the INLD-BSP alliance was on a slippery ground. “It is from a video shot during the 2014 elections,” he said.

Ambala SP Abhishek Jorwal confirmed that he had received the complaint. “I have forwarded the complaint to the SHO, who is investigating the matter,” he added.
