Amritsar, March 21

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh didn’t endorse Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s decision to commit suicide.

He demanded an investigation into the incident and asked judicial experts to assist in the probe.

“If justice is not done to his death, an agitation may be launched from Akal Takht,” he said. “It is unfortunate that he died such a painful death. The circumstances that compelled him take to the extreme step are a matter of investigation. He was pained due to Panthic crisis, but I do not endorse his decision to end his life as there is no place for suicide in Gurmat,” the Jathedar said.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Gobind Singh Longowal demanded action against administrative officials as, he alleged, Khalsa could not survive because of their negligence.

Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Khalsa said Khalsa’s death has put a question mark over the working of the Indian judiciary. “Khalsa was only given false assurances regarding the release of Sikh political prisoners. I appeal to all Sikh organisations to unite and continue Khalsa’s struggle at the international level,” he said.

All-India Sikh Students’ Federation president Karnail Singh Peermohammad demanded the Central and state governments to ensure early release of Sikh prisoners as a homage to Khalsa
