DGP suspends Panipat SI

Director General of Police BS Sandhu has suspended a sub-inspector (SI) for negligence in connection with the rape and murder of a 12-year-old of Urlana village in the district.

He also directed to shift the entire staff of the Urlana police post, including in charge, to the Police Lines.

Interacting with mediapersons here today, the DGP said SP Rahul Sharma had been directed to conclude the investigation within 20 days and the trial of the case would be held in a fast-track court.

The DGP said that he had directed all SPs to have proactive approach towards the crime incidents, especially against women, and monitor such incidents personally.

The DGP said SI Devender Singh, posted at the Urlana police post, had been suspended for negligence of duty. He was present at the police post on Saturday night when relatives of the deceased went there to inform about missing of the 12-year-old girl, but he did not take any action. Besides, all staff of the police post, including in charge SI Rameshwar Dass, SI Jagbeer, ASIs Badan Singh, Suresh and Ramesh, head constables Naresh Subhash, Vivek and Bahadur and constables Manoj and Jagbeer, had been shifted to the Police Lines, he said. No laxity would be tolerated in the cases related to women, the DGP said. “We are going to enhance Operation Durga to Operation Durga Shakti,” the DGP said. To get the best results, five women from the area would be included in the programme, he said and added that these women would interact with the police so that better security could be provided to the girls and women.

The department would recruit 1,000 female constables and 66 female SIs very soon to provide secure atmosphere to the women in the state, he added.
