The police claimed to have solved the murder case of an 18-year-old resident of Lohari village. He had been missing since November 23. The police have arrested a couple of the same village for the crime.

Besides, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sumit Kumar has suspended ASI Subhash for negligence in the matter.

Satish Kumar Vats, DSP, Headquarters, told mediapersons today that the deceased was identified as Vivek alias Chetan (18), son of Sooraj Prakash of Lohari village.

Vivek had been missing since November 23 and the Israna police had registered a case on November 24. His body was recovered from a plastic bag in the village pond.

The villagers noticed the body on Thursday when the bag rose up. They gathered at the pond and informed the police. The villagers had held a protest against the police for taking no action in the past 13 days.

DSP Vats said the police have arrested Sunil and his wife Monika for allegedly murdering Vivek. During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that on November 23, Monika had called Vivek for some work in the fields.

They tied Vivek’s mouth, hands and legs and threw him in the fields and covered him with paddy stubble, he added.

The accused disclosed that at around 3.30 am, they again went to the fields and strangulated Vivek to death, the DSP said.

Then, the couple put the body in a plastic bag and threw it in the village pond, he said.

The accused were produced in court today and have been sent to two-day police remand, the DSP said.
