More than three years after registration of an FIR against former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s political adviser Prof Virender and two others in connection with the Jat quota stir in 2016, the Rohtak police presented the charge sheet in a local court on Saturday.

The charge sheet was filed against Prof Virender, khap leader Maan Singh Dalal and Congress leader Jaideep Dhankhar. Prof Virender’s counsel RC Dalal and JK Gakhar said they were yet to get copies of the charge sheet.

Asked about the delay in charge sheet, Rohtak SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said it had been prepared a few months ago, but some queries and objections had been raised by the legal official concerned and the charge sheet presented after getting all points sorted out.

The FIR had been lodged in February 2016 on the basis of a complaint by Capt Pawan Kumar Anchal of Bhiwani after an audio clipping containing purported telephonic talk between Prof Virender and Dalal went viral.

Prof Virender had been arrested in March 2016, but later released on bail. Prof Virender had been maintaining that the charges levelled against him were baseless and the case against him was part of a political conspiracy.
