Chandigarh, December 16

The Union Government has accorded approval for the establishment of Haryana’s third Sainik School at Matenhail village in Jhajjar district, thus fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of the state.

A memorandum will soon be signed between the state government and the Ministry of Defence for setting up this school.

Stating this here today, an official spokesman said that state government would provide Rs 50 crore for the construction of the Sainik School on a piece of land measuring 38 acres that has been provided by gram panchayat, Matenhail, and Rs 1.5 crore per annum towards the cost of resuming of the deed.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in a letter to the then Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had requested the setting up of a school at Matenhail to enable the youth of the state to join the defence forces.

The spokesman said that the state government would provide the entire capital expenditure on land, building, furniture, transport and educational equipment required by Sainik School and a major portion of the running expenditure.

He said that the existing land provided for the school would be handed over to the Sainik Schools Society on land lease and to be renewed from time to time as per the instructions of the Ministry of Defence.

The state government would also grant scholarships to all the boys (only students of Haryana) belonging to the economically weaker sections of society on the basis of rates and income slabs decided by the Board of Governors from time to time.

He said that the Union Ministry of Defence would provide Service Officers for the posts of Principal, Headmaster and Registrar. It would also provide National Cadet Corps (NCC) staff and Army Physical Training Corps Non-Commissioned Officers.
