Chandigarh, July 26

AICC media incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala today charged the state government with betraying the interests of small and medium home buyers by diluting the RERA.

He accused the government of playing into the hands of the builders’ lobby and sacrificing the interests of ordinary home buyers. He said the Congress would expose the duplicity of the BJP.

Surjewala said the government ignored objections raised by him as well as several NGOs and a large number of project-affected people. The decision to exclude all ongoing projects showed an unholy nexus between the government and the builders’ lobby.

He criticised the government for changing the definition of term ‘ongoing project’ to create multiple loopholes for the benefit of the rich and resourceful builders.

Surjewala said the government surreptitiously excluded from RERA all projects the applications under which are made to the Competent Authority by July 30.
