The body of the Head Constable Narender Singh of BSF, who was brutally murdered by Pakistan Rangers near the Indo-Pak border in Samba sector, was consigned to flames at his native village Thana Kalan in the district on Thursday.

Narender’s elder son Mohit lit the pyre and a contingent comprising personnel from the BSF and Sonepat police paid homage to the martyr at the village cremation ground.

Krishan Kumar Bedi, Haryana Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment; Mohinder Singh Dev, DIG, BSF; Vinay Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Sonepat; Rajbir Deswal, Additional SP; RM Kaushik, Deputy Commandant, BSF; Narender Kumar Yadav, Assistant Commandant, BSF; and the representatives of various political and social organisations were present on the occasion to pay homage.

The body of the martyr was brought from Kabwali turning on the national highway to Thana Kalan village in an open vehicle. It took around two hours to cover 6 km as residents of villages on the way had thronged the road to pay their respects.

Consoling the martyr’s relatives, the minister said the people of Haryana and the country are proud of his supreme sacrifice. He assured that all the financial and other benefits being given to martyrs’ kin would be given to the family.

Later, national spokesman of the Congress, Randeep Singh Surjewala, also reached the village to pay his homage. He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “show his 56-inch chest and avenge Narender’s murder”. He asked the state government to give government job to the martyr’s sons.
