Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today extended his heartiest greetings to the people of the state on the eve of Diwali. He urged them to light a clay oil lamp with the spirit of ‘Haryana ek-Haryanvi ek’ on the festival of lights. The CM in his message conveyed his best wishes for the all-round prosperity and bright future of people and urged them to celebrate Diwali without causing pollution. People should follow the path shown by Lord Ram and enjoy peace, progress and prosperity in life. TNS

Rally for green diwali

Nearly 500 students participated in a rally on Monday to motivate people to celebrate cracker-free diwali. The rally was organised by the Education Department. Students were administered pledge to celebrate clean and green Diwali. TNS

3-yr-old drowns

A three-year old child drowned in a water tank near his house in Patel Nagar locality of the town on Monday. The victim, Madhav, was playing in the street when he accidently fell into the tank, which was later covered by someone with the child still inside it. When he did not return home, the family members started searching for him and recovered the body from the tank. The police have registered a case against Satpal under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) for illegal constructing the tank in front of his shop. TNS

One more held for murder

The police have arrested one more person in the murder case of Rakesh Shyokand who was killed on July 12. Inspector Sandeep, in charge, CIA-1, said a police team led by SI Rajpal arrested Mandeep, alias Setha, a resident of Naina Tatarpur in Sonepat district, from near the Pepsi flyover here on Monday. A pistol and two cartridges were recovered from his possession, he said. Earlier, the police had arrested Rahul, Gagan, Vijay, Arvind, alias Tota, in the case, while Prasan, alias Lambu, who was lodged in Jind jail, had been brought here for investigation, he said. The accused has been sent him into one-day police remand. TNS

Two held with illicit liquor

The police have arrested two persons, including a grocery shop owner, for selling illicit liquor and seized 44 bottles from them. A spokesperson said the police on Monday raided a grocery shop at Bakal village and seized 14 bottles of illicit liquor kept in a plastic can and arrested shop owner Sandeep, alias Kala. In another case, a police team from Siwan arrested Sonu of Kakeor Majra village for carrying 30 bottles of illicit liquor in a plastic can. OC

Vaibhav of Jind and Aditi of Gurugram were adjudged best swimmers at the 4-day Haryana State Swimming Championship which concluded at Rishikul Vidyapeeth here on Tuesday. Amongst girls, Devika and Harshita bagged first prize in the U-14 and U-17 category, respectively. Amongst boys, Bhomick of Jhajjar and Priyanshu of Faridabad emerged winners in the U-14 and U-17 category, respectively. OC
