The body of a woman, who reportedly went missing with rice exporter Rohit Garg (45), was fished out of a canal near Naraina village of Samalkha on Sunday.

The woman has been identified as Sakshi of Model Town here. She and Garg had been missing since Thursday morning. His Mercedes was found near a government nursery close to Delhi parallel canal. The body of Garg was fished out on Saturday.

“Sakshi’s body was decomposed. It was handed over to her family after the postmortem examination conducted by a medical board of two doctors,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bijender Singh said.

People close to Garg claim they were aware of his extra-marital relationship with Sakshi. Both were married with two children each. Sources say Garg and Sakshi were friends since school days.

On Wednesday evening, Rohit went to Panipat Club with his close friend Hardeep Singh and Sakshi, the sources said.

Garg and Sakshi had a quarrel, following which she had tried to slit her wrist, the sources said. Blood stains were found on the left door of Mercedes.

Garg and Singh took her to a private hospital here. After treatment, Garg dropped Singh in Model Town and proceeded towards the canal with Sakshi.

When contacted, Hardeep refused to say anything on the matter. But it is suspected that Garg and Sakshi went to the canal to settle the matter.

The footage of CCTV cameras installed near the canal shows a woman jumping into the canal followed by a man. They drowned because of heavy flow of water, the sources said.

A businessman known to Garg said he couldn’t commit suicide. He must have jumped into the canal to save Sakshi, he claimed.

“The matter is under investigation. The reason behind their quarrel and death will be ascertained during the investigation,” the DSP said.
