Karnal, January 13

Ashok Tanwar, state Congress president, today said that the BJP government has failed to fulfil promises made during the last Assembly elections.

“The government has failed to establish an international airport in Hisar or Karnal. I had earlier said if the government sets up an international airport in Hisar or Karnal, I will quit politics. Even after three years, I am firm on my word. I am sure that the government will not establish an international airport at either place,” Tanwar said.

Tanwar said the Union government should not interfere in the work of the judiciary and allow it to function independently.

He said they would organise a ‘manthan shivir’ in Guruguram on January 15 and later in Chandigarh, Hisar and other districts. Thereafter, they would start a cycle yatra across the state. Asked about the rift in the Congress, he said that, “I have always tried to take everybody along and strengthen the party organisation.”

Says people have lost faith in state, Central govts

Yamunanagar: Ashok Tanwar said on Saturday that people were mentally prepared to bring the Congress back to power as they had lost faith in BJP governments at the Centre and in the state.

“The public, including the youth, farmers and employees, are fed of the misrule of BJP governments at the Centre and in the state. They want to get rid of BJP governments and want to bring the Congress back,” he said.

He held a ‘jan chetna’ cycle yatra with Congress members. “The purpose of the cycle yatra is to make the public aware of the misrule and failure of the government and strengthen the Congress,” he said.

He exhorted workers to strengthen the party by going to the public. “The Congress is a party of 36 communities and we are getting support from all walks of life. I will go to all 90 Assembly segments for mass contact,” he said.

Tanwar visited the farmers who had been sitting on dharna demanding release of compensation for their land acquired for the Dadupur-Nalvi canal project. He assured them that the Congress was with them.
