The Kosli Assembly segment continues to remain a priority for both the BJP and the Congress. The segment had become a prime concern for both parties during the Lok Sabha elections.

While the Congress has initiated a series of review meetings in Kosli to identify the reasons for its defeat in Rohtak, newly elected BJP MP Arvind Sharma today chose the Assembly segment to launch its thanksgiving tour in the parliamentary constituency, which comprises nine Assembly segments.

Kosli residents accorded a warm welcome to Sharma and aired their grievances as well.

“I express my gratitude to the people of Kosli for electing me as the MP. I will leave no stone unturned to redress your grievances and ensure development in the region,” said Sharma while addressing a gathering in Kosli today.

The Ahir-dominated Kosli, with the highest 2.35 lakh voters in the Rohtak parliamentary constituency, played a decisive role in ensuring the BJP win in this Jat-dominated Rohtak seat. Sharma won by 74,980 votes against three-time MP and Congress candidate Deepender Hooda in the segment.

Aware of the anti-Congress sentiment in Kosli, Deepender had visited every village of the segment during his campaigning but could not garner adequate support. The segment proved a spoiler for him. Deepender polled 42,845 votes, while Sharma got 1,17,825 votes in Kosli.

To ascertain the reasons behind the defeat, Deepender’s kin organised a meeting in Kosli on Friday. “A few people who surrounded Deepender during his visit to Kosli during the past 14 years cost him dear as they did not let others meet him and air their grievances,” said Jaswant, a Congress supporter.
