The BJP on Thursday changed its ward number 5 candidate, Subhash Kashyap, as he was found unqualified for contesting the MC elections. When he was asked to produce his Class X certificate, he failed to do so.

So, the BJP replaced him with his brother Jaibhagwan Kashyap.

District BJP president Jagmohan Anand confirmed the development.

It is mandatory for candidates contesting the MC elections to be Class X qualified.

The BJP, meanwhile, faces rebellion in ward 8 as its senior leader Yashpal Mittal fielded his wife Neelam Mittal as an Independent. She filed her nomination on Thursday.

“The party leadership had assured me of giving ticket to my wife. But the promise was not kept. So, I decided to field my wife,” Mittal said, adding that he had not resigned from the party nor he had been expelled. “I will ensure the victory of my wife,” he added.

Congress leaders have filed nomination paper as Independent candidates. From ward 12, former district youth president Pankaj Gaba’s wife Shikha Gaba filed her nomination.

On the last day of filing of nomination, five more candidates for the Mayor’s post entered the poll fray, taking the number to 11. Among them are former councillor Balwinder Singh’s wife Beant Kaur, Rani Kamboj, Radha Devi, Shiksha and Sarita.
