Members of the District Bar Association sat on dharna at the Mini-Secretariat in Jagadhri today in protest against the arrest of an advocate in a murder case. Also, the Bar members struck work for the third consecutive day and decided to continue with the boycott of court work tomorrow also.

Vijay Gautam, president of the District Bar Association, said SP Rajesh Kalia had assured them on July 25 that advocate Virender Singh Kamboj, whose name has cropped up in the murder case of a local RSS leader, would not be arrested without a fair probe. He said the police arrested Virender the same day and produced him before a duty magistrate at his residence in the night.

Meanwhile, the SP invited a delegation of protesting advocates comprising Ram Kumar Radauri and Satinder Pal Dhanda to his office today. Later, he reached the Mini-Secretariat and assured the protesters of fair probe.

Gautam said they lifted their dharna after the SP assured them of fair investigation, but they would continue with the boycott of court work tomorrow. They would also hold a meeting to devise the future strategy.

Ravish Kamboj, a resident of Mali Majra village in the district, was killed with sharp-edged weapons on Sunday night. His body was found lying in sugarcane fields in nearby Amadalpur village on Monday morning. He was the khand shareerik pramukh of the RSS in the district.

The CIA-II of the district police had arrested advocate Virender Singh Kamboj, Kuldeep, Monti and Pappan Rana in the murder case.
