Chandigarh, April 17

Terming the MPs and the MLAs as “accredited representatives of the people”, the Haryana Government once again directed the bureaucrats to be courteous to elected representatives such as MPs and MLAs.

A circular issued by the Chief Secretary’s office to concerned officers, including administrative secretaries and heads of departments, said: “The government servants should show courtesy and consideration to the MPs and MLAs.”

The circular said, “An officer should be meticulously correct and courteous and rise to receive and see off the MP and MLA visiting him. Meanwhile, any deviation from an appointment made with the MP and MLA must be promptly explained to him to avoid any possible inconvenience.”

The circular also instructed officers not to ignore telephonic messages sent by the MPs and MLAs and contact the elected representative at the earliest once they receive the message.

“Any violation of relevant conduct in this regard, where violation is established after due inquiry, will render the government servant concerned, liable for appropriate punishment under the rules,” the circular warned.
