The special audit of the files of the planning department of the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) launched in April is over.

It has detected financial irregularities worth Rs84 crore in the works of the department in the past three decades. The authorities have announced a drive to recover the dues.

The irregularities surfaced after an audit of 1,100 files in the past four months. It was conducted by a team of auditors accredited to the Institute of Public Auditors on the recommendation of the Commissioner, MCF.

The authorities have also got an FIR lodged against unidentified officials of the planning section for the scam that resulted in the evasion of collection of taxes for the civic body.

It is claimed that taxes worth Rs84 crore were not collected by the officials for the work connected with the collection of charges for permission granted to a large number of companies for Composition, CLU (Change of Land Use) Subdivision, External Development Charges (EDC) and Conversion fees in the period till 2016.

“While notices are being issued to all the companies for recovery of dues, the MCF will make a move to attach and auction the properties if the defaulting amount is not deposited within the given time,” said the Commissioner.

Claiming that the dues amounting to Rs84 crore was just the principal amount, Mohammed Shayin, Commissioner, MCF, said that the scam value could shoot up to Rs150 crore as the interest and penalty on it were yet to be calculated. Announcing that every penny would be recovered, Rattan Lal Rohilla, OSD, planning section, said that Rs8 crore have already been recovered.
