Another Sonepat to Delhi road via Narela to be constructed

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Singh on Saturday said that an alternative road from Sonepat to Delhi via Rathdhana and Narela would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 101 crore in order to tackle the growing problem of traffic congestion on the National Highway-1 between Sonepat and Delhi via Bahalgarh.

The Deputy Commissioner, while addressing mediapersons here, said that around 9.4 acres had been transferred to the Sonepat Municipal Corporation for the construction of Port City at Jat Joshi village near Sonepat.

To ensure a safe journey for people, particularly women, CCTV cameras had been installed in 25 roadways buses in the district, he said. Seven special buses for women had also been started.

The Deputy Commissioner said that with active participation of around 1.44 lakh school students, the administration plans to plant 3.84 lakh saplings during this season. “The survival of saplings will be assessed after six months and every student will be given an incentive of Rs 50 for every surviving plant,” he said. Plantation would be done on 116 acres at Murthal village, he added.
