Anganwari workers, with ‘thalis’ in their hands, staged a protest at the Mini-Secretariat for the fifth consecutive day today.

The protesters earlier gathered at the CITU office at the Geeta colony and held a march to the Mini- Secretariat. Another group of anganwari workers, affiliated to the Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh, also held a demonstration at the Mini-Secretariat. A huge traffic jam was witnessed on NH-1.

Sunil Dutt, working president, CITU; Jai Bhagwan, secretary, Kashmir Singh, presiden of the Sarv Karmchari Sangh, Tejpal, secretary, and other leaders addressed the protesters.

Members of the Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh staged a protest against the MC for allotting garbage lifting work to a China company. Notably, door-to-door garbage collection was started in seven wards yesterday.

The protesters gathered at the MC office in the morning and organised a protest march to the Mini- Secretariat. They submitted a memorandum to CTM Sandeep Aggarwal.

Govt’s effigy burnt in Ambala

Ambala: A large number of anganwari workers and helpers, led by their district union president Anupama, today protested in support of their demands.

They burnt the state government’s effigy at Aggarsain Chowk.

They are demanding the status of a government employee, rank three and four for anganwari workers and helpers, respectively, full payment of honorarium, social security and other benefits being given to government employees. Anupama said: “We have been protesting for the past 13 days, but the government has failed to fulfill our demands. We will soon launch a hunger strike.” — TNS
