President of the BJP Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the main phase of International Gita Mahotsav here on Thursday.

He will also chair an international seminar on the Bhagavad Gita at Kurukshetra University.

President of Mauritius Parmasivum Pillay Vyapoory will also be present on the occasion. Mauritius is a partner country in the six-day cultural event.

The Craft and Saras Mela was started in the first phase on December 7.

The second part includes cultural evenings in which several renowned artistes will perform cultural programmes. Film actor Gracy Singh will participate in a dance drama with a troupe on Thursday.

Also, singers Kailash Kher, Satinder Sartaj and Hemant Brijwasi will also perform on different days.

A dance drama by Sangita Sharma and a cultural performance by Atasi Mishra will be organised during the celebrations.

Official sources said Shah would also inaugurate an exhibition at Gita Gyan Sansthanam, where the Bhagavad Gita, written in 40 different Indian and foreign languages, would be displayed.

The sansthanam is being developed by GIEO Gita, a spiritual organisation.

The Kurukshetra Development Board has provided land to the organisation near Brahma Sarovar.

Head of the sansthanam Swami Gyananand said the institute was working to promote the spiritual relevance of the ancient text of the Gita in different fields of modern life. He said a research centre on the Gita and a facility for meditation was also being developed.

He said various chapters of the Gita would be narrated through the light and sound show at the sansthanam.

4 lakh visitors in five days

More than four lakh people have reportedly visited International Gita Mahotsav in the last five days. The annual festivities are being organised at Brahma Sarovar.

The Kurukshetra Development Board authorities have installed electronic counters at various entry areas of the venue to audit the footfall.

Artistes and artisans from 22 states are participating in the Crafts and Saras Mela that started on December 7. For the first time, craftsmen from Egypt and Nepal have arrived to exhibit fabric items and other material.

Local legislator and the former officio member of the KDB Subhash Sudha said the authorities were getting an impressive response from the promotion of Gita Mahotsav on the virtual world.
