Ambala, November 25

Northern Railway General Manager TP Singh on Friday inspected the Ambala Cantonment Railway Station and directed the officials to improve the facilities for passengers at the station.

Speaking to mediapersons, TP Singh said: “We are aiming at increasing facilities for passengers on platforms, streamlining the circulating area and regulating the vehicular and passenger traffic.”

“We will review arrangements for safe train operations during the ensuing foggy conditions. All the trains will be equipped with the fog safety device. It’s a GPS-based equipment that provides advance warning to loco pilot about approaching signal. Retro-reflective tapes on signals posts would be installed to pre-warn the pilots of approaching signals in foggy conditions,” he said.

To avert an Amritsar-like tragedy in future, the GM said, “The local government must inform the railway about the events organised near the tracks. Railway is always attentive and if the message is conveyed, speed restrictions are enforced and trains are also stopped if needed.”

On Train 18, the GM said “It is the best train in the history of Indian railway. It will be a game changer.”

The GM was accompanied by Dinesh Chand Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala Division, Praveen Gaur Dwivedi, Senior DCM, Ambala, and several other railway officials.
