Alertness of 3 cops led to shooter’s arrest

On October 24, 2002, head constable Amarpal, and constables Dharam Chand and Jagmender were patrolling near a police post in Sirsa when they heard the gunshots about 7.45 pm. They ran towards the house of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. A few men pointed towards two persons, screaming they had fired the shots. One of them was held, while his accomplice managed to escape on a scooter. The arrested accused was identified as Kuldeep Singh. Two days later, a car was signalled to stop at a naka near a paper mill in Sirsa. As soon as the car stopped, Amarpal, Dharam Chand and Jagmender identified the driver to be the person who had escaped on the scooter. He identified himself as Nirmal Singh. TNS
