A day after announcing the launch of a new political party in December, Ajay Chautala on Sunday clarified that neither was his son Dushyant Chautala an aspirant for the Chief Minister’s post nor was his wife Naina Chautala a candidate for the post of Leader of Opposition.

Ajay was in Banwala village of Sirsa district to unveil the statue of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal. Referring to Dushyant’s expulsion from the party, he said Abhay Chautala, who was supposed to take care of his nephews during Ajay’s absence, chose to “push him from 17th floor”.

Ajay was responding to his brother Abhay’s statement in Chandigarh on Saturday that he had tried his best to resolve the family feud and even offered his post of Leader of Opposition to Naina.

In an attack on the Leader of Opposition, Ajay said Abhay had expelled him and both his sons from the INLD. Ajay dared Abhay to expel Naina from the party if he had the guts. “But he will not do so because his own chair will then be in peril,” he said.

Responding to Abhay’s statement that whenever he was in Sirsa, his food came from Ajay’s residence and it would continue till he was denied the same, Ajay told mediapersons that there was nothing personal in their feud and their family relations would continue as before.

“Abhay will continue getting his meals cooked by his bhabhi as he had been getting before this episode,” Ajay pointed out.

Allaying speculation that his new political party could align with the BJP for the 2019 parliamentary and Assembly elections, Ajay clarified that his party could enter into an alliance with any party except the BJP and the Congress.

He said though he had gifted the INLD and its election symbol to his younger brother, he was not sure if Abhay would be able to hold these as it required a lot of capabilities and one had to respect party workers.

The new statue of Chaudhary Devi Lal in the village had been set up by Digvijay Chautala from his own funds as the old one was in a dilapidated condition. The village was a part of the Dabwali Assembly segment, represented by Naina.

Local residents, particularly elderly women, came in large numbers to bless Ajay.
