Hisar, May 25

A newly established Agri Business Incubation Centre was inaugurated by Chief Secretary DS Desi at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University here on Saturday.

The centre has been set up to provide guidance, technology and infrastructure to the youth and entrepreneurs for creating start-ups in different areas of agriculture with financial assistance of Rs 12 crore provided by NABARD.

The Chief Secretary said there was a need to develop agriculture as an enterprise in the changing scenario of the world. Referring to farmers not getting the right price of their produce, he said the situation had improved considerably now. “With the development of agricultural technologies, there are many options available to farmers with which they can achieve good profits,” he said.

Expressing the need to increase start-ups and investment in agriculture, he said there was a shortage of these two, especially in the public sector. “The producer should be directly connected with the consumer so that by removing the middlemen, the farmers can get full value of their produce,” he added.

Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, NABARD, said there had been a considerable change in agriculture during the last few years and incubation had also increased due to the introduction of new technologies.
