In a damage control exercise after party nominee Brijendra Singh trailed in the Narnaund Assembly segment of the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu, who represents the segment in the Assembly, on Monday motivated party workers to turn the trailing into a big lead in the Assembly elections.

At a workers’ meeting in Narnaund town, he said there was no need to get demotivated by the slender lead achieved by rival Jannayak Janta Party candidate Dushyant Chautala over the BJP candidate from the segment. “I am sure the BJP will win by a margin of 30,000 votes over its rivals in Narnaund in the Assembly polls. Dushyant had also taken a lead of 43,000 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha when he went on to win the elections. But in the Assembly polls held after four months, voters ensured the BJP’s victory,” said Abhimanyu, who had won the seat in 2014 by a margin of 5,883 votes.

The minister asked the party workers to prepare a list of pending development projects, so that he could expedite the work. “I have fulfilled all my poll promises. This segment has been ignored by previous governments, but I have brought funds for development projects. The state government has also been liberal in releasing the funds,” he said, maintaining that the pro-people and farmer-friendly initiatives of the Centre had benefitted the people. He said he would accelerate the pace of development works in the Assembly segment.
