Action taken against 1,586

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has so far taken action against 1,586 farmers to curb rising air pollution due to stubble burning. Police cases has been registered against 244 farmers and Rs 18.65 lakh realised as a fine from 695 farmers.

Haryana Environment Minster Vipul Goel said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was doing politics on the issue of smog. In view of the NGT orders, the  BJP government was quite serious about dealing with this issue. Action was being taken against the farmers indulging in stubble burning. They are also being sensitized not to burn stubble, but Delhi’s AAP government had not taken any such steps till date.

Goel said crop residue was being burnt by farmers even in Delhi, but the Kejriwal Government had not taken any action.  

Action was taken against 369 farmers in Fatehabad,  79  in Hisar, 54 in Jind, 138 in Kaithal, 357 in Karnal, 184 in Kurukshetra, six in Panchkula, 40 in Panipat and 301 in Sirsa.
