Rohtak, December 10

Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda said INLD MLA Abhay Singh Chautala should step down from the position of Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly on moral grounds as three MLAs of his party had joined the new party floated by his nephew Dushyant Chautala.

“As of now, the number of Congress MLAs is higher than those of INLD MLAs in the Haryana Assembly and therefore, the Leader of Opposition should now be from the Congress,” Deepender said while addressing a news conference here on Monday.

He maintained that the INLD, which was supposed to be the main Opposition party in Haryana, had been functioning as the main alliance party of the BJP regime.

“No candidate is contesting the election of Mayor on the INLD symbol from Karnal, which is the constituency of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar,” he pointed out, adding that the BJP and INLD leaderships were making all-out efforts to ensure the defeat of the Congress-backed candidates in the mayoral and municipal elections.

The Congress MP announced his support to Sita Ram Sachdeva, an independent candidate contesting the election for the seat of Rohtak Mayor, and also appealed to his supporters to back Sachdeva.
