Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar flagged off ‘Arogyam—-a Motorbike Ambulance’ project here today. The first-of-its-kind emergency health service project in north India include motorbike medical services for hilly areas such as Morni.

The Panchkula administration will run the service free of charge in five clusters of the Morni block and a cluster of the Pinjore block in Panchkula district. Trained paramedical staff will tour their areas on six motorcycles everyday and correspond with the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Morni, in order to deliver vaccination and other services.

Motorcycle ambulances, a brainchild of Deputy Commissioner Gauri Parasher Joshi, are unique and specially fabricated two-wheelers equipped with medical facilities to cater to the needs of patients in hilly terrain of Morni and Pinjore.

Gauri Parasher said initially they had provided BSNL mobile phone numbers to drivers. Later they planned to link it with 102 ambulance number. The Morni PHC would be the main base of the paramedical staff involved in the project. Village sarpanchs would also have their mobile phone numbers and the six motorcycles would cater to six clusters of Morni and Pinjore, she added.

The project will be helpful for expectant mothers, emergency cases, vaccination to children and elderly people.
